Wild Ginseng: An Ancient Herb Rejuvenated

During my time as a student of Chinese Medicine, I learned about the medicinal properties of wild ginseng, or Ren Shen.

Wild ginseng has long been a coveted herb in China and other Asian cultures and has been been used for thousands of years in Chinese Medicine.  It is believed to promote a long life, wisdom, and strength.

While researching for a blog post topic, I found that ginseng also has valuable properties that deem it an important skin care ingredient!  This immediately caught my attention since one of my life's greatest passions is skin care.

Recent medical studies have shown that topical application of ginseng is effective in reducing fine lines and wrinkles. It has also been found to make the skin firmer by boosting collagen production.  Ginseng is also used as a skin lightener, so when used as an ingredient in facial creams, it will give the skin a brighter and younger appearance.

Wild ginseng has also be shown to encourage skin regeneration and can be used to treat sunburns, skin rashes, and promote and speed up the healing process.

This multi-talented herb can be used both internally and externally.  As an internal supplement it has been shown to increase collagen synthesis in the dermis and to decrease activity of enzymes that break down collagen.  This is important because the natural aging process and sun damage cause collagen synthesis in the dermal layer of the skin to become less active, and since collagen is one of the proteins that gives the skin its firmness, it is an important part of maintaining the skin's youthful appearance.  Externally, it is most commonly added to skin care products such as anti-aging skin treatments, facial moisturizers, facial soaps, and some cosmetics because of the benefits to the skin.

One product I can’t wait to try is Yesulham Signature Cream.  This luxurious and well formulated face cream uses 110 year old wild ginseng extract as one of its many beneficial skincare ingredients.  I, for one, would love to have the anti-aging benefits as well as the long life and wisdom from this powerful ancient herb.

XOXO
